The Oculus is a 9-metre diameter dome of glass, steel, and extruded architectural bronze, forming the centrepiece of the new Southern Entrance at the Australian War Memorial. Designed by Studio SC and engineered by Prism Facades, the structure features two key glass elements: a curved insulated glass dome and a veiled layer of laminated glass petals, CNC machined v-grooving in the glass surface references the mosaic tile designs within the Hall of Memory Dome.
The Oculus serves as a symbolic marker and space for reflection at both the beginning of the visitor experience while also daylighting the new Southern Entry.
